THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN PARTICIPATED IN THE VI CONFERENCE ON INTERACTION AND CONFIDENCE BUILDING MEASURES IN ASIA (CICA)

On October 13, 2022, the VI Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was held in Astana, in which the delegation of Turkmenistan was represented by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov.

Heads of states and governments, high-ranking representatives of participating countries, leaders and representatives of observer states, international observer organizations and partners took part in the work of the summit of a high international level.

During the meeting, the participants outlined the need to expand trade and economic ties, including in the energy and transport and communication sectors, to ensure food and environmental security.

The importance of maintaining peace and stability on the continent and in the world as a whole, as well as a consolidated approach to ensuring security and combating modern threats was especially noted.

Following the results of the summit, the CICA member countries adopted a number of statements and decisions:

- Astana Statement on CICA transformation;

- CICA Leaders’ Statement on Cooperation in the Field of Security of and in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs);

- CICA Action Plan for the implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy;

- Decision of the CICA summit on granting Kuwait the status of a CICA member state;

- The decision of the CICA summit on the chairmanship of the association in 2022–2024 and holding regular meetings of the Council of Heads of State and Government and the Council of Ministers;

- Regulations on the CICA Fund.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is an international forum aimed at expanding cooperation in the areas of security and stability, enhancing trade and economic partnership, and interaction in environmental issues. Turkmenistan has the status of observer in this international forum.
