Meeting of the President of Turkmenistan with the Chairman of the People's Republic of China

On September 2, 2025, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to the People's Republic of China, proceeded to the Tianjin railway station to depart for Beijing. Here, the Head of state was solemnly seen off by officials of the friendly country.
After some time, the Head of state arrived at the Beijing railway station on a special train. Here, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was warmly welcomed in accordance with the good traditions of hospitality.
In the afternoon, the Head of state arrived at the Great Hall of the People of China. An official meeting was held here between President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.
Having warmly welcomed the President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the PRC leader thanked the Head of Turkmenistan for accepting the invitation and, taking the opportunity, conveyed cordial greetings to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero Arkadag.
Chairman Xi Jinping also congratulated President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the successful holding of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in the Avaza National Tourist Zone recently. Noting that he recalls with good feelings the meeting with the President of Turkmenistan within the framework of the Central Asia-China Summit, the PRC leader emphasized his readiness to work together on its results.
Expressing gratitude for the invitation to visit China and the hospitality shown, the Head of the Turkmen state congratulated the leader of the PRC on the successful holding of the SCO Summit and the 80th anniversary of the Victory, and conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Hero Arkadag.
Turkmenistan highly appreciates China's support for Turkmenistan's neutrality, as well as China's co-authorship of a number of resolutions adopted by the General Assembly at the proposal of the Turkmen side. In this context, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan supports the Global Governance Initiative put forward by the Chairman of the People's Republic of China at the SCO Summit.
The Chairman of the PRC congratulated the Head of the Turkmen state on the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, noting that China highly appreciates the country's peacekeeping foreign policy.
As was emphasized during the meeting, China is a key foreign economic partner of Turkmenistan. The gas industry is a strategic area of bilateral economic cooperation.
Having reported that the Chinese side won the international tender for the development of the 4th stage of the large gas field "Galkynysh", President Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated Chairman Xi Jinping on this event.
The Head of state also noted that a draft General Agreement on the basic principles of gas cooperation between Turkmenistan and China has been prepared, emphasizing that in the future this partnership will develop on the basis of this document.
Noting that cooperation with Turkmenistan in such an important area for China is a great honor, the Chairman of the PRC thanked Turkmenistan for the conditions and support for the activities of Chinese partners in this sector.
At the same time, Chairman Xi Jinping confirmed China's readiness to further build up bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Turkmenistan, including in the "Central Asia-China" format.
Partnership in the field of transport and logistics is also of great importance. Turkmenistan's strategy "Revival of the Great Silk Road" and China's strategy "One Belt, One Road" are inherently compatible and complement each other.
Noting the important role of the Central Asian region in achieving these goals, the Head of Turkmenistan emphasized that Turkmenistan supports and actively participates in the dialogue "Central Asia-China".
An important place on the agenda of interstate Turkmen-Chinese relations is occupied by the cultural and humanitarian sphere, in particular, education. Expressing gratitude to the Chinese side for creating favorable conditions for their education of Turkmen students in higher educational institutions of China, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan intends to expand educational ties with the PRC.
The importance of scientific cooperation and the implementation of joint projects in this area was also emphasized.
Currently, the role of parliamentary, public, women's and youth diplomacy is increasing. Speaking about this, the Head of state confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to discuss joint activities in this area.
Noting that, at the initiative of our country, the UN General Assembly declared 2025 the "International Year of Peace and Trust", President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping to the international forum to be held in Ashgabat on December 12.
Expressing gratitude for the invitation, the Chairman of the PRC emphasized that China respects the legal status of Turkmenistan's neutrality and supports its peacekeeping foreign policy.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that under the leadership of Chairman Xi Jinping, the PRC will continue to achieve great success.
Thanking for the kind words, the leader of the People's Republic of China emphasized the importance attached to the current summit meeting and reaffirmed China's commitment to further developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan. The Chairman of the People's Republic of China also expressed support for the proposals outlined by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
At the end of the meeting, the Heads of the two states, expressing confidence that Turkmen-Chinese relations will continue to develop for the benefit of the friendly peoples of both countries, addressed each other with best wishes.

As part of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the People's Republic of China, bilateral meetings of members of the Turkmen delegation with Chinese partners were held, during which they discussed prospects for cooperation in various fields.
In particular, much attention was paid to intellectual property issues. Representatives of the two countries discussed ways to strengthen academic ties in the field of education, and implement joint scientific and educational projects.
In the context of the development of Turkmen-Chinese cooperation in the field of culture, special attention was paid to museum work. During the meetings, issues of interaction through the media were also discussed.
At the meeting dedicated to partnership in the transport sector, issues related to the expansion of infrastructure projects were discussed. During the meeting on energy sector issues, Turkmen and Chinese partners exchanged views on the modernization of specialized infrastructure and the use of sustainable energy production technologies.
Following the meetings, bilateral documents were signed. These include: Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Lanzhou University; Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Intellectual Property between the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan and the National Intellectual Property Administration of the People's Republic of China; Memorandum of Understanding between the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan named after Saparmurat Turkmenbashi the Great and the National Museum of China; Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Cooperation between the Editorial Board of the Electronic Newspaper “Altyn Asyr” (Turkmenistan) and the Newspaper “Renmin Ribao” (People’s Republic of China).
